Patricia, how cool is this?! I also had a relative who fought at Kings Mountain – for the British! Have you ever heard the story of what happened after the Battle of Kings Mountain with the captured Loyalists? They were marched into North Carolina. On the first night, the soldiers held an impromptu military court, found all the Loyalists guilty of treason, and began hanging them three at a time from a nearby tree. When the officers, who were camped nearby, heard what was happening, they rushed over and stopped the executions after 9 Loyalists were hung. One of those was my ancestor, James Chitwood. But I also had lots of ancestors who fought for the Patriots haha! Thank you for sharing your story and loving my road trip itinerary.

We were invited to Kings Mountain in 1980 when James Williams’ gun was presented to a family member. It was such a memorable time. Both my husband and I have great grandfather’s and/or family members who fought there and you just designed my dream trip. We live not far from where James Williams lived when his family was growing up.
Thank you for putting such a great road trip together!
